I’d done an oil pastel sketch from a photo I’d taken on the 172 bus. I worked on a painting during the session.

I was pleased with it as the colour palette was very different to my usual choice. I’ve since done some work on it at home – and although the brush work is more complex I was a bit heavy handed with the glaze and the colours don’t seem so fresh.

Having visited the Diebenkorn exhibition at the RA I can see how important it is to keep the paint layers thin.

I also added a bit more yellow, brighter blue and some lighter parts at the bottom to New Cross rainy night.
